  • How does Virtual Learning Differ from Virtual Learning Academy (VLA)
  •
  • Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) made the decision to start the 2020-2021 school year virtually for all students. In earlier communication, parents and guardians have been given the opportunity to choose an all virtual option (Virtual Learning Academy) for their students when a decision is made by the District to return to face-to-face instruction. The following chart outlines how the Virtual Learning Academy compares to the District’s current virtual learning for all start to the school year. Please note: Parents who previously applied for the Virtual Learning Academy will be given the opportunity to opt-out (remove their child from consideration) from the request for the Virtual Learning Academy. The opportunity to opt-out will only be necessary if and when the district transitions to a face-to-face instructional model. How does Virtual Learning for All compare to the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA)? Virtual Learning for All (Grades Pre-K – 12) Virtual Learning Academy [VLA] (Grades Pre-K – 12) ● On August 10, 2020, all students in grades Pre-K – 12 will start the year virtually. (Interested parents/guardians may continue to apply for the Virtual Learning Academy through August 28, 2020.) ● Students should have or have access to a reliable computer (desktop or laptop device), web camera, speakers, and internet connection. ● Students will be provided with daily, teacher-led instruction Monday through Thursday. On Friday, teachers will post assignments that students are expected to complete independently. ● Teachers will take attendance daily. ● More information as it relates to Attendance and Grading is in the Parent/Student Handbook. Go to the CCPS website and select the parent link to access the document. ● Students will have access to all course offerings (Core, Advanced Placements, CTAE, Fine Arts, etc.). ● Students will receive any required support services (DES, ESOL, Gifted, Intervention). ● This option is ONLY needed if or when the district returns to any face-to-face instructional model in 2020-2021. ● Parents/guardians will need to apply for the VLA for their children. The deadline for VLA has been extended to August 28 th . Go to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to apply. ● Parents/guardians will be notified of acceptance status after August 28 th . ● Parents/guardians will be offered the opportunity to opt-out (remove their child from consideration) of the Virtual Learning Academy. ● Students may be required to maintain satisfactory performance (70 or higher) for each grading period/term. ● Parents will receive more details regarding the instructional delivery model; for now, please consider the following: o There will be a combination of student independent learning and teacher-led/monitoring of learning. Therefore, parents/guardians will be required to monitor students’ performance. o Selected students must have access to a reliable computer (desktop or laptop device), web camera, speakers, and internet connection. o There may be limited options for Advanced Placement, Fine Arts, and CTAE courses. o Selected students will receive any required support services and will not be excluded based on service needs (DES, ESOL, Gifted, Intervention). *Please note that the district will be monitoring COVID-19 test information as gathered and released by local/state health agencies and, based on the numbers reported and the trend indicated, may implement a face-to-face instructional delivery model during the 2020-21 academic year.

    Track and Field

The federal and state laws just recently changed, and they will allow Nutrition to serve after-school snacks if there is an after-school enrichment program tied to their virtual platform. Please be aware that beginning September 1, 2020, Clayton County Public Schools will be providing a variety of after-school virtual enrichment activities to all students via the Parent Virtual Learning Toolkit (PVLT) website and school-based student learning portal.

  • Additionally, our students can access the activity link below created by the Federal Organization "Team Nutrition." https://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/digital-nutrition-resources-kids.  The Nutrition Department will start distributing snacks along with the breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
